So I decided to try and make my own natural mascara. Found a recipe on Pinterest which called for using aloe vera gel, vitamin E, activated charcoal, and bentonite clay. All you have to do is mix it together and use an eye dropper to put it in your empty mascara tube. Yeah right. Let me tell you it’s just not that simple.
The product is so thick and sticky (it’s mascara after all) there is no way it’s getting sucked up into anything let alone be redistributed into another container. I ended up using a coffee stir stick and kind of scooping and shoving it all in. After getting most of it in and getting my fingers stained black from the charcoal it was time to test it out.
It was hard to get enough on the wand to show up on my lashes. They recommended using arrowroot powder applied with an ear swab in between coats. Don’t. It just gets cotton fibers stuck on you which have to be picked off. Also, I noticed a little bit of charcoal fall off into my eye.
So I think the verdict is PARTIALLY BUSTED. I will probably try another recipe and/or alter the one I used. I will also be brainstorming ideas on how to get the product into the tube easier and less messily.
Thanks for looking. Peace out.
